Meet the People Behind the Library

The Greensboro Free Library is guided by a dedicated staff and an engaged Board of Trustees who care deeply about this community. Together, they support the library’s mission, steward its resources, and help ensure the library remains a welcoming place for learning, connection, and discovery for all.

Library Staff

Ed Lemery

Edward serves as the Library Director of the Greensboro Free Library, overseeing daily operations, staff, volunteers, facilities, and long term planning. He is committed to strengthening the library as a welcoming public space and expanding access to resources that support learning, creativity, and connection across the community.

Emily Purdy

Emily leads youth and family programming at the library, creating engaging opportunities for children to learn, play, and explore. She is passionate about early literacy, creativity, and making the library a joyful and welcoming place for young people and their caregivers.

Youth Librarian

Bianca supports circulation, interlibrary loan, and patron services, helping ensure materials and resources are easy to access. She enjoys connecting readers with books they love and assisting patrons with research, technology, and everyday library needs.

    Fan Watkinson

    Interim Chair

    Fan moved full time to Greensboro with her husband in 2021. She first lived in Vermont when attending Tuck Business School and through those connections she has finally discovered the Northeast Kingdom. Working in consumer marketing and corporate training prior to raising her family in Massachusetts and Germany, Fan later focused on promoting local food businesses. Before retiring, she coordinated volunteers, distribution and outreach for a farm growing organic produce exclusively for hunger relief. Treasuring library outings since a small child, Fan values libraries in home towns and when traveling as critical resources and reflections of their communities.

    Carol Reynolds

    Vice Chair

    Carol has lived in Stannard since 1980, on a mountaintop farm where her family raises beef cattle and makes maple syrup. She has served as the auditor for the Town of Stannard for a number of years and has also been Director of the Lakeview Union School. She’s a retired elementary school educator, having taught for a year in Stark, New Hampshire, 2 years in Fort Yukon, Alaska and 36 years at Barton Academy and Graded School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Vermont in 1977 and a Master’s Degree in Education from Southern New Hampshire University in 2009.

    Jennifer Lucas

    Treasurer

    Jennifer has been visiting Greensboro since 1979, a summer resident since 1991 and a full time resident since 2020.  She’s been a Greensboro Land Trust trustee/advisory committee member since 2004, where served as Treasurer and on strategic planning and natural resources inventory committees.  Other volunteer activities include the Advisory committee of the Northern Rivers Land Trust, and  board membership at MVCC .  Her professional life was spent in consulting, manufacturing, banking and accounting in strategic planning, financial and tax preparation roles.  She graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in Environmental Sciences and from the Tuck School at Dartmouth with an MBA.

    Jan Terwiesch

    Board Member

    Jan is an associate at F.L. Bissinger Architects and principal at Greensboro Vernacular Design. He enjoys participating in civic life and contributing to the conviviality and amiability of daily life in Greensboro. Jan believes in being an active participant in ensuring the town remains a great place to live and raise a family, particularly by supporting housing, schools, libraries, and first responders. He is also a prolific user of the interlibrary loan system.

    Valerie Carter

    Board Member

    Valerie married Greensboro in 1968 and has been a summer/partial winter resident with her husband Charlie Carter and family for almost 60 years. She is an avid fan/user of libraries and fascinated by the evolving role of libraries in community life. She was a director in a large insurance company with experiences in project management, strategic planning and budgeting. Currently, she is a member of the Craftsbury Continuing Care Center board. She graduated from Vassar College and has a MCRP from the University of North Carolina.

    John Miller

    First Alternate

    John is a resident of Stannard and from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources. He is a former Lakeview Union School Board Chair. In the past he also served as Chair of the Pleasants Fund of the United Church of Christ and as a member of the Northern Rivers Land Trust.
