Please join us in a dynamic program led by Meagan DeClerk titled Art Across Borders.
Art Across Borders is a multidisciplinary, hands-on program that explores children’s rights, culture, leadership, and global connection through art. Projects may include collage, self-portraiture, clay, mural planning and creation, cultural “icebergs,” blindfolded painting, music, and cooking a meal from Malawi and possibly another country.
Students receive personal art journals and take part in creative exchanges with children in Malawi, our primary collaboration partner. Throughout the session, we also connect with children in other parts of the world through shared art-making, songs, conversation, and storytelling.
Important note* Discussion is a central part of the class. Some conversations touch on real-world issues that can be complex or heavy, including political situations and war. These discussions are always age-appropriate, facilitated with care and grounded in a core guiding principle of the program; children do not choose politics. We focus on helping students understand children's rights, dignity, safety and shared humanity, while emphasizing empathy, context and the ways children can respond thoughtfully and creatively to the world around them.
"This project is supported in part by the Vermont Arts Council, which receives support in part from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency."
Free and all are welcome.
